We are proud to call ourselves Ballet Esmeraldas de Colombia, like the green precious gemstones because Colombia produces the most emeralds for the global market, as well as the most desirable.

We are a not-for-profit dance group which frequently presents authentic and traditional folkloric Colombian dances in Canada since 1991. 

The group is proud to present one of the most important carnivals in Colombia, the Carnival of Barranquilla, here at your multicultural showcase. The carnival of Barranquilla is the second largest carnival in the world, and it is recognized by UNESCO as being an intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. 

To give you a taste of what the carnival of Barranquilla is about, Ballet Esmeraldas will present the Cumbia, Danza de Negros, Mapale and Checarnaval a medley of songs, dances, and costumes found in the Carnival. This dances are integral in the Carnival of Barranquilla, identifiable trough the vibrant reds, Yellows, and greens that make up the dancers' costumes. Ballet Esmeraldas de Colombia will give an overview of the Carnival through this dances featuring several significant songs frequently heard during the Carnival of Barranquilla and it displays a diversity of iconic costumes.
