Sridaya Srivatsan

Sridaya Srivatsan is the disciple of Smt. Anuradha Jagannathan, and completed her Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical style of dance) dance debut in 2008. She has since been performing solo recitals at various Canadian cultural organizations in Stratford, Ottawa and the Toronto region. Most notably, she was invited to perform at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in 2015 during the Chennai Music and Dance festival in India, and received positive critical reviews of her performances in Bangalore and Vizag. Sridaya is also a Carnatic vocalist, having trained with her mother Smt. Sandhya Srivatsan from a young age, and has attended advanced vocal training workshops by Smt. Usha Padmanabhan and Padma Bhushan Smt. Sudha Ragunathan. Sridaya has also lent her vocals to the JUNO nominated album “ROOTED” by Alysha Brilla for a fusion track called “Centre,” and has performed classical dance in the corresponding music video.

Since her move to Ottawa, Sridaya is involved as the Program Director at In Our Tongues Reading and Art series, Ottawa’s first poetry organization dedicated to amplifying and nurturing the talents of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour poets. Nurturing community is very close to Sridaya’s heart, and she is grateful to be able to live and create art in the unceded territory of the Anishnaabe people, colonially known as Ottawa.
