Nishita Alex
Nishita is a professionally trained Indian classical dancer who has over 25 years of performance experience and is passionate about experimenting with choreography and abhinaya.
She started her journey in dance at the age of 3 under the tutelage of Guru Kalamandalam Vinodini of Natyadarpana (Calicut, Kerala) and received training in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. Since her school days, she was fortunate to perform at various prestigious venues and earn many laurels. Among other accolades that she earned, she feels honored and humbled to be awarded the title of State Kalathilakam (Govt. of Kerala, 2001).
She further took up advanced training in Mohiniyattam under the guidance of the mohiniyattam exponent and Padmashree awardee Guru Bharati Shivaji. As part of Bharati Shivaji's troupe 'Centre for Mohiniyattam New Delhi', Nishita has performed at various prestigious dance festivals across India such as the Narada Gana Sabha, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha (Chennai), Natyanjali festival etc. She also feels fortunate and proud to have represented India at various international venues including the Festival of India (Moscow), the prestigious Bolshoi theatre in Russia, Jakarta, Bali, Phnom Phen among others.
She is also the recipient of the scholarship for Mohiniyattam by ICCR, Department of Culture, Govt. of India.
She relocated to Canada in December 2022 and is still very passionate and hopeful to continue performing and exploring further on choreography and abhinaya.
