Originally from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, he moved to Ottawa in 2004. Quickly drawn to the creative world, Kimya explored visual art, breakdancing, and photography, using each as an outlet to create. He soon discovered a passion for words and writing, leading to his first compositions.

Through his rap and poetry, Kimya builds a world where lived experience, dreams, and a desire to create peace and escape come together. A semi-finalist at the Festival International de la Chanson de Granby in 2017, he released his first EP Or & Flamme the same year, which went on to win the 2019 Trille Or Award in the Discovery category.
