ART+ Artist in Residency Program Open Call

 

The Multicultural Artists’ Coalition (MAC-CAM) invites artists to apply for the ART+ Artist in Residency Program, a paid studio residency that supports artistic creation by reducing barriers to access, space, and time.

Application deadline,
March 1st. Program start day, May 1st.

The program offers free access to a professional studio at the Nepean Creative Arts Centre (35 Stafford Rd, Nepean, ON K2H 8V8) and a $500 honorarium, allowing artists to focus on research, experimentation, and the development of their artistic practice. Three artists will be selected. Each artist will receive a 4-month residency period with dedicated studio access.

Eligibility Criteria​

 

This open call is open to all professional artists living in the National Capital Region (Ottawa–Gatineau) and working in any artistic discipline. 

MAC-CAM welcomes applications from artists of all backgrounds. While all artists are eligible to apply, priority will be given to artists who face systemic barriers to accessing studio space, including: 

  • Indigenous artists 

  • Black and People of Colour (POC) artists 

  • Immigrant, refugee, and newcomer artists 


Self-identification is voluntary and used only to support equity-based assessment. 

What the residency offers​

 

  • ​Free access to a professional studio for 4 months 

  • A $500 honorarium

  • Time and space for artistic research, creation, or experimentation 

  • Optional public sharing or open studio opportunity 

  • Promotion through MAC-CAM’s ART+ platforms 


This is a process-based residency. A finished artwork is not required. 

Selection & Assessment Criteria

 

Artists will be selected through a peer-review process based on: 

  • Artistic merit and clarity of the applicant’s practice

  • Strength and feasibility of the residency proposal

  • Alignment with the goals and values of the ART+ program

  • Demonstrated need for access to studio space

  • Commitment to equity, access, and diverse artistic practices

This opportunity is open to professional and emerging artists working in all disciplines, including but not limited to: 

  • Visual arts 

  • Interdisciplinary practices 

  • Craft and material-based practices 

  • Media arts 

  • Design and experimental practices
