Hyesun KO

Born in 1973 in Seoul, South Korea, Hyesun Ko spent her mid-twenties in Paris before settling in Quebec in 2015. Dazzled by the beauty of the fantastic engravings in Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, she dreamed of becoming an illustrator from a young age. She immersed herself in religious icons, enigmatic prints and the literary works of the Symbolists, which she loved to decode. Her passion for art also led her to study the novels of Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, the 19th-century French Symbolist writer, which she used as the subject of her doctoral thesis at Seoul National University. A self-taught artist, teacher of Korean in Montreal, and translator of many French novels into Korean, her most recent drawings are part of the illustration - insert and cover - of her own Korean translation of "La grosse femme d'à côté est enceinte", a novel by Quebecer Michel Tremblay.
