Alea de Castro
Alea de Castro, also known as Didi, was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada and has been dancing for over 20 years. She specializes in the Street/Club Dance styles of Hip Hop, Waacking, and House and is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Moov Ottawa Dance. As one of Ottawa’s leading Street Dancers, she has taken the role to organize many local dance events, choreograph various dance works, perform and teach locally and internationally and create community projects. Alea has taken her work throughout Canada, the US, South East Asia and recently in Mexico. She has also won various grants such as the Tontine Award, Neighbourhood Arts Grant, Capital Pride Community Fund, Korea-Canada Connection Fund from Canada Arts Council and the SEED Award from The City of Ottawa. From creating projects that support BIPOC women, to performing at festivals such Indonesia’s International Culture Festival, Alea has proven to be a pillar in the Street Dance community. Today, Alea is continuing to work on her independent creative research, continuing her work through Moov Ottawa Dance and running her non-profit Moov, Bouge, Danza.
