ART+ WORKSHOP SERIES

Join a free career development course by the Multicultural Artists’ Coalition (MAC-CAM) in partnership with the Ottawa Arts Network (ANO) to elevate your art business skills and build a resilient art career in Ottawa, Canada, and beyond! The course is open to artists and creatives of all disciplines.
 
The program consists of 5 free workshops. It focuses on topics of self-presentation, legal advice, budget development, online marketing, and touring. You can participate in individual workshops and don’t have to commit to the whole program to take the course.

LEGAL ADVICE - Meet Joy Wei and Ariadni Athanassiadis from the Arts Legal Service Ottawa (ALSO) team, and learn more about contracts and your rights as a cultural worker.

 

Whether you are a professional, emerging, or mid-career artist, it’s essential to understand legal issues to protect yourself and your work and ensure you have a healthy, long-lasting, and prosperous career.

 

Join Ottawa-based lawyer Joy Wei in her presentation about essential legal topics, including choosing the right business structure, protecting your work with intellectual property laws, understanding contracts, obtaining necessary licenses and permits, navigating tax laws, and adhering to employment laws when hiring.

 

Our second guest, Araidni Athanassiadis, will present various business contexts commonly encountered by creative professionals to reveal how intellectual property rights (e.g. copyrights) can be considered in informal and formal agreements intended to support creative work and livelihoods.
